Since its opening in 1992, Keumsan Gallery has been a leading gallery in Korea, exhibiting and introducing works by artists across all genres, including painting, installation, sculpture, new media, photography, and prints, with an emphasis on contemporary art.  The gallery has been at the forefront of presenting Korean contemporary art overseas, and has made ongoing efforts to introduce works by major international artists such as Yayoi Kusama, Toshimitsu Ito, Wang Jang, Oscar Oiwa, Yuki Matsueda, Mari Hasley, and Fang Lijun. The gallery has been steadily working to introduce representative Korean artists such as Kang Kookjin, Kwon Daehoon, Kwon Yongrae, Kim 25, Kim Changgyeom, Park Seobo, Seok Cheolju, Yoon Pilhyun, Lee Dongsoo, Lee Woohwan, and Kuhn to overseas audiences.

In particular, Keumsan Gallery has been promoting cultural exchanges with Asia, Europe, and the United States through art, and has played a role in discovering promising artists and serving as a conduit for their continued overseas expansion. It also plays a leading role in introducing Korean contemporary art to the international stage by introducing them to global art fairs in Korea, China, Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Europe, and the United States.

금산갤러리는 1992년 개관 이후 국내 대표적인 화랑으로서 현대미술 중심의 회화, 설치, 조각, 뉴미디어, 사진, 판화 등 전 장르를 아우르는 작가들의 작품을 전시 및 소개하고 있다.  또한 한국 현대미술을 해외에 선보이는데 앞장서고 있으며, 특히 쿠사마 야요이, 이토 토시미츠, 장왕, 오스카 오이와, 유키 마츠에다, 장마리 해슬리, 팡리준 등 해외 주요 작가들의 작품을 국내에 소개하는 데에 지속적인 노력을 기울이고 있다. 강국진, 권대훈, 권용래, 김25, 김창겸, 박서보, 석철주, 윤필현, 이동수, 이우환, 쿤 작가 등 국내 대표 작가들을 해외에 소개하는 데에 꾸준히 힘써왔다.

특히 금산갤러리는 미술을 매개로 한 아시아, 유럽, 미국 등과의 문화교류를 추진하고 있으며, 전도 유망한 작가들을 발굴하고 지속적인 해외 진출을 위한 통로로서의 역할을 수행해왔다. 더불어 이들을 한국, 중국, 일본, 홍콩, 대만, 유럽, 미국 등 세계적인 아트페어에 소개하며 한국 현대미술을 국제 무대에 활발히 소개하는 주도적인 역할을 하고 있다.

또한 2019년에는 구룡포 예술공장을 개관하여 아시아 젊은 작가들의 전시공간을 제공하고, 레지던시를 통한 아트 플랫폼의 역할과 함께 지역의 부가가치를 높이며 뉴미디어를 포함한 문화 예술 발전에 기여하고 있다.
